The team

James Pembroke Publishing is a small but very experienced team.

James Pembroke - Managing Director

James has published magazines for 20 years, and started JPP in 2001 with the aim of bringing newsstand quality to contract publishing. James is experienced in all aspects of publishing but his expertise in subscription marketing has seen The Oldie’s subscriber base go from 20,503 to 30,668 in two years. Rather than just providing a straight content and design service, James treats every magazine as its own profi t-and-cost centre, and is keen to maximise the former on behalf of his clients.

James Houston - Creative Director

James has been the Creative Director of JPP since its launch in 2001, and is adept at pitching a magazine’s look at the right level for the reader, whether trade or consumer.

Matt Bielby - Editorial Director

Matt Bielby is one of the UK’s most successful magazine creators, having worked as a launch editor, publisher and publishing company director in a career spanning over 20 years. He has launched over a dozen major news-stand magazines in the UK, the US and Germany, while at the same time he’s been involved in the creation of customer magazines for a wide range of companies, societies and other clients. Amongst the market-leading titles Matt has created are PC Gamer (UK and US editions), SFX, .net, Official PlayStation 2 Magazine and Total Film.

Joe Bird - Business Development Director

Joe has recently joined JPP after his great success on The Oldie's ad sales which he has helped increase by 55% in two years.

Gemma Hancock - Project Manager

Gemma Hancock has worked at James Pembroke Publishing for six years, acting as Project Manager for a range of clients including the CTC (Cyclists’ Touring Club), the UK’s national cycling organisation, for whom we produce Cycle magazine.

Simon Goddard - Art Director

Simon Goddard has been working in publishing for over eight years. Over this time he has worked with many brands including play.com, HMV, Sky, BT Vision, O2 and most recently has successfully designed and launched Triathlon Plus magazine.
